Five Ways to Cure the Winter Blues

Photos by Ky of Miss Ky Way

Here in Texas, at least in South Texas, we really aren’t having the ‘winter blues’, but I know that most of the rest of the U.S. is suffering from a lot of bad weather and snow. I feel sorry for all of you who are 'holed up'...but I have to say that I love looking at your snow pictures because that’s the ONLY snow we are going to get around here!

My daughter told me, she's ready for summer. My goodness! Winter has only just begun in our part of town, but she loves the beach and has had enough break from summer to be ready for it again. Me? I’m just lovin’ the cool days and praying that they last through the end of May.

Remedy #1: Celebrate Summer in January..with a ‘virtual vacation’ in Australia!

You probably already know it, but it still amazes me that winter-time here is summer for our bloggy friends in Australia who are having a grand time at the beach right now from what I can see.   If you are suffering from the winter blues, perhaps you need to drop by  my friend’s photography/family blog, The Miss Ky Way. Ky takes the most gorgeous photos..even though she says she just points and clicks like me. I think she’s a natural photographer and unusually talented. She has posted some great photos of trips to the beach that I loved so much I made some of them my desktop backgrounds. It’s my highest form of compliment. :O)

If you are one of my snowbound friends, I’m sure you will enjoy a ‘virtual’ vacation to Melbourne. Just turn up the heat, break out the lemonade, put on your beach clothes, floppy hat and sunglasses…and maybe put on a Beach Boys CD…and then visit Ky and check out her most recent posts here, here, here, and here. You’ll be over those winter blues in no time!I always find such interesting posts and blogs when I’m visiting you all and this one was one of my favorites of last week.

Remedy #2: Listen to some great summer music..with the Beach Boys on Youtube

Want to hear some great summer-time music? How about this video of “Surfin’ USA”.  I think it’s pretty fun and has some great beach photos too. :o)

Remedy # 3 Watch my favorite home videos from this summer…

I did some pretty neat videos this summer that should make you forget all about the snow…like these videos of the grand-kids at our local pool, seagulls flying next to the ferry, feeding the ducks in the park, Rebekah giving the kids a horseback ride and square dancing on the ferryboat in Galveston.

Remedy #4 Visit some of my favorite posts from this summer.

Rebekah feeds the seagulls
We had a great time this summer too and if you would like to get a bigger dose of sunshine, you might enjoy some photos of fun things I did with the grand-kids here and here or  shopping at Galveston beach here and here. Our family made several trips to the beach this year which I posted about here and here.

Remedy #5  Last of all (and maybe the best)…why not get an Amaryllis?

That way you and the kids can watch a flower bloom right in the middle of winter! I’ll be posting photos soon of my Amaryllis blooming… It’s been just lovely! My mother forces bulbs every winter and I've always wanted to grow some too. If you've never done this, now might be the perfect time.

Linking to My Romantic Home's Friday Show and Tell...a place to see Cindy's beautiful blog and the most lovely things from blogs all over! I think she has 'spring fever'. LOL! I'm also joining a brand new linky party called Cottage Flora Thursdays. Beautiful photos of flowers..a great cure for the winter-time blues. :o)
So, don’t let the winter snow get you down..summer will be here again before you know it! How do you beat the winter blues? I’m sure our fellow readers would love to know!

I love the Beach Boys. I hadn't heard them in a long time, thanks for that. It's cold over here but not as cold as elsewhere. Some people are really freezing. I have on some thermals, two pairs of socks, two t-shirts and my hooded jacket on and I'm still cold. I actually warmed up a bit watching all the fun going on in your blog. Have a great Sunday. Take care.

You're the bomb Donna! It's so weird seeing my photos on someone else's blog post. So sweet of you to include me in your post about remedies for the winter blues. I hope others are blessed as much as you and I have been by those images.

I love that seagull photo you took and the one with all the sailboats on the ocean. Gorgeous!

Hope you are having a great weekend my friend!

Hey, I'm using your "legos on a sheet" trick in the living room today, and actually not dreading cleaning up! Thanks!!

I'm so glad Caroline! I got tired of helping the kids pick up legos 15 years ago. We needed a fast way to get them up for when the toddler or baby woke up from their nap. :o)

Love those videos and especially the pool one from the summer! I always love your posts Donna, and you are getting good at linking to past posts - don't think I don't notice these things :)
