I wanted to do a more ‘informative’ post today, but spent most of yesterday making a meal for a friend. The day before that found me altering prom dresses for another friend’s daughters.
Peggy took my son Jacob to San Diego for the national speech and debate tournament, so this was one way I could say ‘thanks’. I’ll be going back next week for a day too. It’s wonderful to spend a ‘girly’ day now and then with friends. :o)
Tomorrow morning will find our family dancing away for the entire day as part of an all-day square dance workshop for our new members. We will all go as ‘angels’ or helpers since we are so experienced.
Since we have to leave so early in the morning, I thought I’d just share some photos of our trip to the beach from last weekend. There was so much sand that I could only swim a bit. The ocean water sometimes looked brown! So I practiced my photography skills..such as they are..LoL! :o)
We have done some fun things this week that I plan to share with you later. :o) We just ordered The Way to Cook and The Art of French Cooking, both by Julia Child. Rebekah is really wanting to do ‘fancy’ cooking and we were both so inspired by the movie, Julie and Julia, that we are wanting to try more.
My newest favorite dish is an Italian one called Milanese Style Penne Pasta and it is just heavenly! I’ve learned to ‘de-glaze’ a pan and make a reduction sauce! This is great to know as you thicken by cooking away the liquid rather than adding a bunch of thickener. Great news for us dieters!
But if I go on any longer, I’ll be writing my Italian cooking post..so I better stop. Ha!
Rebekah, Christian and Jacob with their friends from “Ultimate Frisbee’.
I also have been working away at my six things list and it really is as life changing as I thought it would be! So this is what it feels like to be ‘caught up’! I’d never experienced it before! (That I can remember that is.) So many good things are happening as a result of this habit. I’m starting to enjoy what I do in a whole new way!
And I’ve been able to do some extra things like pick flowers to take with my friend’s meal..and do something really special..rather than just my usual ‘casserole’. I even volunteered to handle our square dance club’s ‘store’. (Donated clothes for the new dancers to buy very inexpensively.) I’ve been behind and had to say ‘No’ to so many things, I was afraid I’d forgotten how to say ‘yes’.
It’s like I suddenly ‘woke up’ and could be a ‘giver’ again because I’m not so burdened down with things that should have been done a long time ago (and the accompanying guilt.)
My brain seems to be functioning again and I had given that up for lost! Who knew that having so many belated tasks piling up would cloud your ability to think clearly. I certainly didn’t!
Today, I also took before and after photos of one of my VERY favorite cleaning tricks..Piling it!! It’s a fast and easy way to straighten the house, which is what I had to resort to in order to spend the day cooking and shopping.
Next week will be so fun! I can’t wait to join you all and drop by. (Finally got to do some visiting tonight! Yippee!)
I do hope you all have a lovely weekend and a blessed Sunday.

Ahhhh....sweet beach and sun and sand....it's been so long since we've touched each other!! Today...I live vicariously thru you, my friend! Can't wait to see your future posts you talked about here!! HOPE you have a blessed weekend!
Donna, these photos are truly spectacular, it's raining here this morning, pouring actually (again) we vancouverites despair that summer will ever arrive. Usually by mid July and then by mid August it starts up again off and on, sometimes we get indian summers but haven't had any great ones in the last few years. sigh. Good thing I'm leading the last day of my True colour Expert training today so it doens't matter. I love how your sweet and generous personality always comes out in your posts. Love your blog Donna!

The pictures are just incredible. It looks like it was a fabulous day at the beach.
Okay....are we going to see a similar blog as Julie had as you sample those recipes? Both are fabulous cookbooks and I know you will learn so much. Enjoy!
I love the colorful Beach umbrella and Black headed gulls especially! Beautiful post!
Great pictures Donna. Looks like it was a lot of fun. you are right about the water looking a little brown. None the less it looks inviting. Have a great weekend.
Looks like a fun day at the beach. Sounds like you are feeling good about life. YOu have always been a giver in my eyes. Sometimes other things just happen. Enjoy your week to come.
Julie and Julia is one of my favourite movies. Meryl Streep is brilliant! Every time I watch it (lately it's on my movie channel all the time) I get hungry and start cooking! I want to go to the beach. Yearning for the sun. It's cloudy and raining on and off again today.
And for you to find time to do the things you love and not be overwhelmed all the time must be wonderful for you.
Have a great weekend.
Thanks everyone! I'm having a blast learning to cook again..LoL! I found a great website with cooking tips. I guess I THOUGHT I knew how to cook..but there is so much to learn!
Like photography... Today I practiced... composition, angles, textures, cropping, and just trying to capture 'symbols' or elements of the sights sounds and smells of the beach. This is the first time my photos weren't family in the middle..horizon and bluish gray sky and sand. All of them were that way!
I had so much fun...
I have sore feet now am Tim and the kids are napping. It was a pretty grueling dance workshop!
Have a great weekend and I'll see you on Monday!
Love,
Donna
Hey Donna,
Looks like a wonderful way to let all the cares of the world roll away.
Hope you have a great time -
Hugs,
Kathy
BTW, one photographer said, "If you're in such a weird position that everyone is staring at you like you are crazy..then you'll probably have a great picture."
I definitely was in some weird positions for some of these photos...the joys of getting older is that you don't care..Ha!
Thanks for visiting my blog, Donna. My son is on his way 'home' momentarily. I will pray for your son's safety, and for your peace of mind.
I love your beach photos. I am in the middle of the country, and miss the ocean! - my favorite place

Love all of your photos, Donna. They made me wish I was there except for the fact that I know how hot the temps have been. I would have passed out. But what a lovely day for you. You earned it. You are inspiring. I am looking forward to the day I can apply the six things. I am so tired of saying no as well. I would love to feel free to play and say yes once in a while. I will remember this post as a motivation. I loved the movie Julie and Julia as well. I look forward to next week's posts. Sounds exciting. Marty approves of your blog. He doesn't mind that I spend time reading it. That's saying a lot since he doesn't want me wasting too much time reading too many blogs. It looks like I will have a post each week for a while on Mondays. I prescheduled several of them already. Thanks so much for always dropping by and leaving sweet messages. So glad we are friends.
I'm so glad you've worked something out Trudy. :o) You're in one of those 'all consuming' seasons of life. New babies take a lot of time! I'm glad Marty approves. :)
