Ok..technically it’s seven and a half acres…but I think my title sounds so ‘quaint’, don’t you?
I’ve shown you all so many photos of our property..but they were in the spring, fall, and winter.
This is the first time that I think I’ve done a ‘grand tour’ in the summer.
One of the few drawbacks of blogging is that we so rarely get to ‘drop by’ each other’s homes.
So today, while we are off at the beach with the kids and their friends…I thought I’d let you have a peek at our home in its full summer finery. It sort of goes ‘down hill’ from here.
Since I took these photos our early summer heat, drought and wind have just about cooked our poor yard!
It’s still green as far as the trees go, but wow..it’s starting to look like Dallas! (Heaven forbid!) Houston is known for its generous (and sometimes too generous) rainfall. But not this year.
I almost lost my hydrangea (a gift from my secret sister) due to the lack of rain.
And we are watering parts of our yard every day. There’s nothing like the sight of some deep luscious green to make it ‘feel’ cool…even if it’s not. LoL!
What you see here is the reason, Dear Hubby tells himself, that we bought this place 40 minutes from everywhere!
But when the summer heat really kicks in, which as I said, as already happened, then he dreams of Seattle.
Poor Tim has never quite acclimated to the ‘natural oven’ we call Texas.
Every summer I have to pray that he doesn’t pack us all up in the moving truck and whisk us away to greener and cooler..and dryer climates.
Of course it’s pretty dry right now! There doesn’t seem to be a speck of humidity anywhere!
During the spring, my dear hardworking hubby has the hardest time keeping up with the mowing and the trimming of trees.
We have a LOT of trees!
Big, towering, majestic trees that have been growing for at least a hundred years now.
Unlike most of our neighbors who have established new homes on parcels of the original property, ours has been a homestead for several generations.
It was once called White Oaks Farm…and I think that’s a great name for our place.
The white oaks are superb. No question about that. I love looking straight up into the branches of the gorgeous oaks.
I like knowing there are things bigger than me out there…that have stood the test of time.
For those of you are missing green, as my dear son Matthew in Afghanistan is…perhaps this will be a treat.
And for those of you enjoying cooler climes…well..I’m so happy for you! That means, it’s your turn to post.
Have a lovely, sunny, relaxing Father’s Day. And give the man in your house a big hug. Let him know he’s the best.
And whatever you do..don’t let him do yardwork!

How beautiful, Donna. Love that magnolia blossom, all the greenery and fresh air. Happy Father's day to your man.
What an absolutely charming post! I love all the photos, and your words that go along with them. I live in the Houston area as well (Richmond) and it's definitely pretty stinkin' hot there. Of course all your trees should help a lot. May I ask whereabouts in the Houston area you live? Just curious! Leslie Anne
No, not Seattle! ugh. The green is beautiful but the pacific northwest can be a little too green almost - moldy with all the dampness.
Donna, Summer hasn't even started yet! As a matter of fact it's raining as I type. some heat and sun would be a welcome treat.
One more thing: your yard is incredible and so well groomed. Wow. I love all your space and trees it seems so peaceful. I love all your pictures.
Oh..PLEASE don't remind me that summer hasn't started yet! Who ever heard of a 105 in North Houston in June?!! :o)
I'm glad you all like it and I live in China Grove, Tx. an hour north of Houston and 30 minutes east of Willis.
It looks like a wonderful homestead, Donna. We could use some of your heat here as we are struggling to make it into the low 60s each day. Such is our typical June!!!
You have beautiful property. And thank you to Tim for sticking it out in this oven and not whisking you-all away. Hope you had fun at the beach.
Hi Donna,
What a gorgeous property you have! I so wish we could have some of that summer heat. It's pouring rain here, we get small glimpses of summer and sun but very little. Vancouver usually doesn't get summer until July, but every year we hope it will be different. And it rarely is. Sigh. I'll take some heat over rain.

Very pretty! We have a lot of yardage to mow, too. I love it, but it is a lot of work. Thanks for sharing these photos. It's been hot, hot, hot here in TN this year, too. We got one really good soaking rain a couple of days ago that helped, but we need more.
How beautiful your place is.
Seems like everywhere is having strange weather.
I love your home it seems to just belong there.
Dear Donna,
Your house and yard look so lovely! It is very evident that your family works hard around the yard. Wish we could send you some rain from Maine! We've had quite a bit this spring...many have had to replant because of root rot.
Hope you all have a very blessed "Father's Day" weekend!

Your homestead is beautiful, Ms. Donna. Thanks so much for sharing with us!
Donna,
What a lovely home and property you have! We hope to have our country homestead again one day soon.
Many blessings,
Jill
The trees! The shade! I think even if it is 100 degrees, the shade helps sooo much - especially since the humidity is pretty low lately. In the shade one can still be comfortable even in the afternoon. Your place seems so restful. Maybe one day we'll have our little homestead, though now being less than 10 minutes from everything is a priority.
Did you see, there is a chance of rain and highs only in the low 90's forecast for later in the week!
Your property is just beautiful. It's wonderful I would imagine for nice walks. No swimming pool yet? Looks great, thanks for sharing.
Marty loves all of the pictures you take for your blog. He says you are a really good photographer.
Beautiful Donna! I love our home but I WISH we were secluded like that!
