Making Christmas Gifts for Friends and Family

One of my sisters-in-law, is a lawyer in Washington, D.C.  She's a very accomplished woman and I'm sure she's "on the go" a lot.  She didn't seem to be the type of person who cares for 'froo-froo'.  Her daughter, Jordan, is about eight and I wanted to make something they would like and that would work better than my typical 'tote bags' for traveling.

What I came up with was a set of fanny packs for both of them.  I knew Mary had worn one once when our families went to the zoo with all the kids and thought she might prefer this kind of bag.

You really need to check out Hobby-Lobby if you want some great items to embellish! They have the cutest bags already made and ready to decorate--aprons, purses, backpacks etc.  As soon as I can get these gifts in the mail, I'll show you how to make the yo-yos that I love so much.

I plan to post a tutorial for "Making Yo-Yo flowers for Embellishment" on my other blog Homemaking Made Easy, either tonight or tomorrow and then you can try it for yourself.  Be careful though...these are addicting!  The whole project doesn't take me more than an hour and a half..and that's for two bags.

Have Fun!

Hi Donna,

Thanks so much for leaving the comments at my blog.. I noticed that you deleted a few comments also.. But dun worry, I wun spill the beans on the content. ::))

I just want to encourage you to go ahead and set up an online store if you would like to start selling your handmade goods.

There are a few great handmade sites, such as Etsy and Artfire. There you would find buyers and other sellers of handmade stuff. Its a good way to start, especially for busy mommies, who are unable to setup real brick and mortar stores/ booths at craft fairs.

But of course, the learning curve on selling online is a little steep and sales take time to build up. I hvae been selling online for 1 year, and though difficult, it has been a really fruitful year for me as I managed to turn my life around, and spend more time with my family.

It has also brought me tremendous joy and self confidence when others believe in me and value the work that I do.

Do contact me at djsupply(a)gmail.com for a chat anytime..

Merry Christmas!!~

Hi Diane, Thanks for the advice. Actually, the post I deleted was exactly the same as the one I left..I just noticed..too late, that I had spread the comments out and it looked 'spacey' which bothered me..Ha! No secrets there! I have a vision for trying to do this, and a lot of drive to make things happen. Also, I have some very savvy friends who sell online already..but I try to pace myself. The teens come first and then the other stuff. Blogging and selling takes time! I can tell from some of your posts that you have already learned that.

Well having older kids doesn't change things that much. I know the Lord will give me all the time I need. I don't get stressed about it. I'm just happy to have a 'vision'.
