Decorating: Creating Atmosphere, a Focal Point, Meet an Interior Decorator

So now what? Your were a good girl...or boy, as the case may be, and you've started decluttering at least one of the rooms of your house..right? Good! If not, take a little pause here and grab a bag and quick go run through that room tossing everything you can find that you could possibly live without. This is what is otherwise known as a super fling boogie!

Meet a great interior decorator..Marie Killiam..
As a reward, you can now start working on decorating your room! I've been learning some wonderful tips about decorating that have helped me tremendously. I love her posts about creating atmosphere, a focal point, and the proper use of color!  I could spend all day on Marie Killiam's blog, Color Me Happy! It is better than any blog I've ever seen on decorating! She has such good advice.

Creating 'Atmosphere'
I'm a totally amateur decorator, but I do know that I've often wished I could live in some of the hotels I've visited. There were doing something just right..but I could never figure out what it was. Frankly, I 've felt the same way about some people's blogs. They are stunning! But why?  Well, I think some of it has to do with interior decorating and understanding principles of design. At any rate, Marie can tell you why we love beautiful hotels on today's post. "The Enchanting World of Atmosphere".

If you want to take a vacation to 'dream land' and learn a lot of great ideas for decorating your home, you must visit Color Me Happy!
Making a Focal Point
One of her great tips is on creating a focal point. It transformed my living room which I just couldn't, for the life of me, figure out how to arrange. I had plenty of space but couldn't decide what was the best arrangement. It looked either too spread out or too confusing or just plain boring. Until I read about focal points and created one in my living room.
The trick is to make a focal point, regardless of what else you 'have' to put in the room and then work around the focal point.
You can see the results of my efforts in this post...The Art of Decorating. I decorate on a dime and my furniture is in need of replacing. But I do my best with what I have which is all anyone can do.  I do know one thing though..making a focal point transformed what I had! I was astonished! Now if you love this sort of topic...then as soon as you are done admiring my amateur efforts on decorating..hop right on over to Color Me Happy.

Here is an excerpt from today's post..

The Enchanting World of Atmosphere

It’s the reason you are reading this blog (or any other blog) right now. Because you are looking for atmosphere. Atmosphere is the feeling that gets created when you finally get the right colour on the walls. It’s what you get when you install a lamp in a minimum of 3 but preferably 4 corners of your living room or Master Bedroom (More on this in my February Newsletter).

 Enjoy!

Great post Donna. I am pretty much the "laid back" type. I do clean every day but my stuff is getting a little run down. Might be time to spruce it up a bit. :D Have a great weekend.
