How do you know when you've been blogging.. too much?

Dear blogging friends,

I hardly know how to tell you this, but I'll try. For some time now, I've been struggling with how to not let blogging become too much of a daily focus. I'm not sure when it became more time consuming. The fact is that I enjoy visiting you and being encouraged by you. And more than anything, I love sharing the fun and helpful things I've learned over the years as a homemaker.  My husband has been very supportive of what I've been doing and encouraging too.

Over the course of this year, I have met some of the most wonderful women I have ever known. You are all so talented and so sweet and friendly. I can't imagine what it will be like not being in daily contact with you all.

This morning, my daughter and I were having our regular morning tea together and reading this marriage book that we've been discussing to prepare her for her future as a homemaker.

The title of the chapter was "Finding My Life In His".  It's all about being the supportive helper that God created me to be as he pursues the vocation God has called him to pursue.  At the end of the chapter was a question, "What habits in your life should you change to adapt to your husband's needs? Start today.

I was reading this out loud to my daughter. Naturally, everything the book says about marriage brings up my marriage to dear hubby in her mind.  I knew what habit was flashing in my mind in bright neon lights...the word blogging.  But I didn't have the courage to  think it hardly...much less say it out loud.

Rebekah is such a quiet thoughtful girl and would never just blurt out anything...so she said nothing, but I soon discovered that she was thinking the same thing.  Blogging...needs to change.

Without my ever meaning it to...the laundry has gotten behind, the bills are getting paid...but the budget is rarely clear..things get paid late sometimes, the house looks great..but not consistently...my focus on school for my youngest who is decidedly ADHD...is not what it needs to be or ought to be,...I don't sew what I should (sewing to meet our every day needs helps to keep us from spending what we don't need to spend.). A lot of projects and business responsibilities are not being done in a timely manner.  And even my time with the Lord is getting squeezed by this obscure and ill-defined need to get a post up and do it well...and do it at the right time.  In other words, blogging has become the priority in my life...not being the wife and homemaker that I should be.

I'm not afraid to tell you this (as embarrassing as it is) ...because like all of you, I'm just a human being who makes mistakes.  I know you probably well understand what I'm experiencing.  There is a time and season for everything, but when you find yourself not fulfilling your responsibilities...it's best to take stock and get back on track. At least right now...I don't think this is the season for what I'm doing.  I don't know exactly when or where I got off my chosen path of being my hubby's best ever helper and the queen of my home...but I know what to do when I get lost...flip a Ueey as we call it at my house and go back to where I got off track.

In a week or two, this blog will no longer be public as I am taking it down. So if you like something in my archives, you probably want to copy it.  If you like the crazy sewing ideas I post now and then or the projects that I make, then you can always switch over to DC's Creations and see them when I post them...which will be whenever something is finished.. If I make something or come up with a good idea, I'll  post it. But I don't chat or visit much and only post something about every week or two. It's just a good place to post something new when I make it.

If you like my music, you can access it at   Songs of Home, but again, I don't try to maintain a community there.  The same goes for our family blog, Comin' Home. Family and friends can always catch up with whatever is going on here at home there.

I have a few prizes to send, and those will be sent this week.

I know that much of what I share could be found elsewhere in this vast ocean of bloggy land.  I wanted to direct you to some of my favorites who do what I do...but I feel do it better. :o)

You can email me if you have any questions...

I love you guys and pray God's blessing on each of you and for you and your lovely family. If ever the door opens again for me to blog and be at peace with that decision...when that season of life happens...I'll be back. It's really up to the Lord and his timing.  I will miss you all so much but I know I'm leaving you all in good hands. :o) Keep up the good work..you are all wonderful!

In Christ's Love,

Precious, precious Donna. You are such a sweet soul and I so admire you following the Holy Spirit's direction. I, too, am going to do something about blogging too much. I haven't posted anything yet, but will soon let my followers know that I won't be posting every day like I have in the past. I've felt God leading me in this direction for quite some time!!! I'm so honored that you chose my blog to include in those you listed. I love you!!!

Dearest Donna;
I'm so sad to hear that you're leaving but at the same time I fully understand. It's easy to get caught up in the little things and assume the big ones will all work themselves out magically. Your family and happiness should always come first. As much as I'll miss you, it's no good having you here if you're wishing you were somewhere else or here feeling guilty. Maybe in time there will be a better balance and you can return. In the meantime know that you'll be miss and thought of.

What if you just gave yourself a 10-15 minute time limit once a week instead of leaving all together?

I've thought of that...I really have and I wanted to leave the door open and maybe just post once a week...but at the moment I just don't feel peace about it. I never feel guilty about blogging..just bad about what else gets left undone. :o)

I'm afraid to leave this particular door open... like my daughter says..it's like saying you are only going to have one cigarette a week...kind of hard to do.

When hubby gets home, if he feels I should do something weekly...then I would be open to that but for sure...I need to take a sabbatical for awhile.

But I'm always available to answer questions and chat with friends, and I'm sure I'll still get to visit blogs of friends like you. :o)

Oh my, you just hit a nerve with me. I have been on the computer way too much of late. I am not going to stop, but I think I will try to limit myself to only a certain amount of time a day. I just started a new blog that is going to help me sort out my feelings about my mom, so I really don't want to stop that one. If anything I should limit my postings to my sewing blog to once a week.
I wish you wouldn't go away completely. I agree with Countrymama that maybe you could limit yourself to a certain amount of time. You still need to do something that is just for you. You did say that your husband is supportive of this hobby.

Hi Donna,

I am a new member of yours and I just wanted you to know that I support you in your decision to move on. I am relatively new to blogging but I can see where it can totally consume you if you let it. I love meeting people here in blogland and because of physical problems I no longer work or drive anymore, so for me I wanted and needed to meet people somehow who shared the same interests that I do. I have been blessed to meet and become close friends with some of my followers and I thank God everyday for bringing them into my life. I do not post everyday and sometimes I feel guilty about it, but, I have learned that I am in control of what I do everyday and that I can choose wisely what to do with my time. I know God has lead me here and I know that in all things there are good choices and bad choices. I choose to keep it simple on my blog and in my life as much as possible and keep the Lord centered within it all.
We all know our limitations and we know what is really important in our lives. God gives us the choices and we know better than anyone else what that choice should really be for our own lives and our familys life as well.

You are a lovely lady and I know that God will direct your path in
all that you choose to do.

God Bless you and yours,

Susan

Oh Donna. Blogging is something you love to do and enjoy. Why deprive yourself of it? Do what I am doing right now, take some time off and don't post but visit other blogs and limit the time spent. Make it 2 hours a day at the most or even less. I'm sure God will understand how much you enjoy blogging. Why post every day anyway? Post once a week, or just say hello on your post , howdy doo, a little busy right now, be back soon. etc. I wish you wouldn't go but if you do, I'll be here when you come back. I'm signing off right now to clean the kithchen and do other things and possibly be back later this evening. Do take care and think deeply on your decision. Take care and thx for adding me to your list of bloggies.

Oh wait....You shouldn't delete your blog without first saving it or you will lose all your posts, never to return. Remember it is a journal of sorts and you always want to keep that.

You will most definitely be missed, but your family should be the priority. So I support you in your decision.

You will be missed but I understand and am proud of you for following God's promptings. I know I spend too much time on the computer, but have not felt God telling my not to blog at this point. I do need to pray about it, though, and figure out what I can do differently. Even my new diet & exercise program is highly based on spending time on the computer tracking food, exercise, and supporting others & getting support.

Thank you so much for including me on your list. I am honored. And, I hope you continue to email me!

I second everything you have posted about blogging taking up time. With me it was blogging and also volunteering way too much. I did a whole day once aweek at the local hospital and a day a the local government centre. I also work on some weekends. This lack of time at home was sadly causing complete chaos. My hubby never said a word but I am sure he missed his socks neatly folded in his draw! lol.
