There Once was an Ole' Blogger...who Lived in a Shoe...

There once was an ole' blogger...who lived in a shoe.  She had so many obligations..she didn't know what to do!  Can you relate? I bet some of you can. No doubt about it....  Blogging takes a LOT of time!

(Can't believe I couldn't come up with my own poem.Sheesh! I do write poetry fairly  well... )

For almost a year now, I've been torn between my love for our sweet blogging community and my love of sharing my heart and the multitude of 'bright ideas' that pop up, unbidden I might add, into this nutty brain of mine...

VS... the love I feel for my hubby, children, family, and community (real life as we call it) not to mention the myriad of responsibilities that come with a large family all heading out into that great adventure called 'life'.. en masse'.

Like the old woman in the shoe, I honestly could not,  for the life of me,  figure out what to do!?

I was in a bloggy dilemma, if ever there was one!  If you have been there, then you know what I'm talking about. Right?

How do you choose between 'returning' comments and typing a post...over spending the morning chatting with a Dear Daughter before work..even if it is time for 'Tuesday Tea'. Why Tuesday...Why Tea?  Why linky parties? Many a 'late' post has been due to me making the right choice..

but still, I felt a LOT like Percy when we catch him just waking up on the living room couch. (He knows very well that the couch is off limits! Bad dog!)

These questions have haunted me many a time...and MUST be answered.

I love the idea of a chat with you over a cup of tea...but that's where it stops. I don't have enough china to take it further than that..LoL!  But Tuesday is a terrible day for me--Wednesday or Friday would be much better. Why Tuesday? To tell you the truth..I'm not exactly sure.

It's like that story of the young married couple. "Honey, why do you always chop off the end of the ham before you put it in the pan?" asked the young husband.

Wife.."Because MY mother always did, of course! Let's ask Mom about it".

Mom's reply.."Because my pan was too small!"

If YOU had to choose between comments from me..and formal posts   vs. few comments...and quick posts from the overflow of daily life or no blog at all...which would you choose?

When I think of the many, many visitors to Comin' Home who 'drop by' and never say a word..an unseen audience of whom I'm acutely aware...  It's hard to think of quitting altogether just because I can't 'do it all' or 'do it all perfectly'.

I want to bless you as best I'm able..in the limited time available.  Perhaps occasional dribbles and middling comments is better than no blog at all.

For a small little interlude of exactly a week or so...I've been doing just that on Facebook.  It's quick..easy..painless..and still...I get to share a little of what pops up in daily life here and it seems to be a blessing to others..however small.

I couldn't help but think.."Why not 'lower my standards' so to speak..and share what I can..however sporadic that might be?"  I sent a long  email to my very closest bloggy friend 'explaining' my blogging dilemma..and she wisely suggested just exactly that. (Thanks Maria!)

So, IF this works..and I don't sink into the 'black hole' of my own expectations...I will start posting 'mini' versions of what I used to share when the opportunity arises.  Think of it as blogging 'Facebook Style'.   It certainly seems better than nothing. And I know many of you don't do Facebook.

If it doesn't work..then I will have no choice but to stop. You only go around once after all....and then the kids are grown and gone and it's too late. I can't and WON'T live with that choice.  I'm sure you wouldn't either. :o)

I DON'T have the time to do linky parties right now..or keep up a huge blogging community with regular visits all around.Someday I will...just not now.  But I CAN pop up a little post now and then.

I will not be posting on a regular schedule...I won't be posting 10 photos or elaborate 'how to's' unless a golden egg of 'time' magically drops in my lap and no one needs me for some reason.(?!)  This season of my life simply won't allow it.

But I'll share what I can..when I can.

We've been friends for a long time..and I hate to lose that. :o)

Have you found a 'happy medium' in blogging? I'm sure our readers would love to hear about it. (Not to mention ME of course! LoL!)

Yay! I'm so glad to see that you have found a happy medium that you feel happy with Donna! I think your solution is a wise one and I'm sure that all of your bloggy friends will be thrilled to hear from you whenever you feel inspired. I don't have Facebook so will really enjoy reading your updates on your blog.

Best wishes and glad to see you've "come on home!"
Natasha.

Sounds like you've found a solution, Ms. Donna....HOPE to read more of what you have to say. I'm trying to implement the 80/20...and threw away so much stuff yesterday, it was sad!!! Thanks for your great tips and ideas and the love you show all of us!!! HOPE you have a great day!

I am shocked and so wonderfully blessed to read your post this morning. Woo hoo! I'm so glad you will continue posting as time allows.

Another suggestion to use or not might be to post once a week, or whatever your schedule allows. Maybe choose one or two subjects for each post and call it a day.

I remember reading about another blogger a while back who did something similar to this because she had severe time constraints -- she is married and raising children.

In the end you must do what works for you and your family. Have a great week!

I am delighted that you have found a compromise in your blogging crisis! I have come to the same choice in writing my 2 blogs. Looking forward to whatever you post.

Blessings!

Sounds wise:) I've been taken lately with the Chesterton quote, "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." Not that I aspire to bad. . . but as a perfectionist the goal can be so overwhelming that I wilt. So, I need freedom to be. Freedom to do only what step God gives. Freedom to just do it, even if my original estimate of it is not great. Blessings to you, Donna.

You guys are amazingly wise..and Amy..the quote is awesome! I will have to add that to my permanent repertoire.

Believe me..when I say sporadic posts. I'm not kidding! I have three saved up from Facebook..so I'll be sharing those over the next week or so.

Maria K. said the same thing. Just post 'the best' stuff. I think that really will leave time over for socializing.

My posts on Facebook only took about 20 minutes each. That's something I can live with!

I do hope that this works out for you, Donna, as I hated to see you and your wise words leave forever.

Like you now are, I am a sporatic blogger depending on what is required of me here at home. It works for me. Welcome back.

When you can and what you can is perfect. Sometimes it will be not much at all, othertimes more. God opens doors when it is something He wants you to do. and closes them otherwise. You shouldn't feel guilty about keeping up with it ... I do that too, but the blog is to serve me, not me to serve it...

This is my approach too Donna. I get to it when I get to it. I like to be able to read back and get a hint at what our lives were periodically but I don't need frequent and huge reminders for that, just little nudges. Speaking of, I think it is time for another little nudge before Baby Broc arrives.

See you tonight in real life! lol

I'm glad you will post sporadically. That is what I do too. In fact, when people post EVERY DAY - I have no choice but to unsubscribe!!

I do enjoy your posts though so I'm glad you will still share with us.

Family must come first. As you said they grow so fast & off they go into the world. Hold them tight when we can. I find I am having little time to blog these days. What works for you is best. I have enjoyed your posts & many have been helpful. Blessings!
