FlyLady Tips: How Do You Like Best to be 'Pampered'?

Getting a Manicure

Do you take the time to 'pamper' yourself at all...and if not..why not? I am the world's worst for not doing this. I love watching movies with Dear Hubby and going out on dates to play pool, watch airplanes, or just visit over dinner. But until my dear daughter took me out (with her very first paycheck) for a mommy-daughter date, and tricked me into a pedicure, I'd never even considered something like that.  I don't buy lotions and potions. I get enough as gifts. (Are they hinting at something here?) :o)

I have other ways to enjoy myself, but it's very easy for me to neglect things like heels, toes, and nails. Thank goodness, I have a daughter who seems to instinctively understand that if you don't care for yourself, you won't have the energy to care for others.

She's the one who reminds me and encourages me to eat healthy. She's right too! One reason I have so much energy is that I eat right (most of the time) and feel fantastic!

But another booster is that she encourages me to buy stylish clothes (albeit from a thrift store) or sew them so we can 'look nice'. I feel so much more cheerful wearing pretty clothes, even practical stuff, than I do if I don't dress nicely.  And makeup is a must! But I do keep it simple. :o)

What about a new hair do? I 'splurge' once ever six months and pay for a perm at Wal-mart of all places. With a perm my hair ends up looking curly and full rather than thin and whispy and ready to go with just a wash, some mousse, and some scrunching. That's yet another secret as to how I do so much.  I don't spend a lot of time in the bathroom with make-up and hair. Check out my post on how to streamline this process if you want to learn more.

I now love pedicures because you get more bang for your buck than when having a manicure. I guess I'm not as hard on my toes as my hands--Ha!  I don't even grow out my fingernails because it interferes with my guitar playing. But I do take care of them more than I used to.  Rebekah has the most beautiful nails I know of. She says it's because she eats right. That is one of the most profoundly simple and accurate truths about nails, hair and even skin that I have ever heard of.

Eating right fixes a lot--your skin tone, nails, hair, complexion.  Drinking water helps keep acne under control.
Pampering yourself is really just taking care of your body and your mind. Getting enough sleep, drinking water, eating well, and keeping up your morale and attitude by dressing nice and getting fixed up in the morning.  And like my friend Gloria always says..."Take some time to smell the roses!"  In other words, she's the best for reminding me to slow down and not get too rushed.

I love getting things done, but I'm always so glad when Rebekah says, "Hey Mom, how about tea?" Just taking time to relax and sip a cup of tea with a friend is one way to pamper yourself that won't hurt. Self-indulgence almost always backfires in the long run...but pampering, in moderation, can help you be so much more productive in the long run.

I  want to look nice but I'm not out to win a beauty contest, of course. It's really counter-productive to  be excessively worried about these things but at the same time we don't want to be careless about our appearance either. I think each of us can  find a happy medium.  We want most of our beauty to come from within...right? A smile is the best thing you can do to make yourself beautiful..but there are a few other things you can do too. :o)

So...how about a bubble bath..or a home pedicure? You don't have to go to a salon. You just have to take some time to take care of you. :o)

What is your favorite way to be 'pampered'?

Happy Homemaking!

How are you always so right about everything? That's an area lacking greatly in my little world.
I must remember to pamper myself every now and again.

Ky, It's because I used to be so wrong about it. I'm just 'one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread.'. It's always been hard for me to.

It's a joy to me that my children instinctively understand this even when it was so hard for me to. :o)

Enjoyed reading the post. I am glad you had a little me time. So hard for Moms to take time for themselves, so right.

I'm not much at pampering myself, either....very good reminder that we are worth a little extra attention every now and then!! Thanks, Ms. Donna!

I'm not great at pampering myself other than my monthly haircut. I do enjoy a long soak in the tub with my newest quilting magazine....does that count???

Absolutely Needled Mom...It's just taking a little time out to 're-charge'. Sometimes just curling up with a good book and a cup of tea will do it.

You have the right idea. :o)

Blessings,
Donna

What a blessing your daughter is, to spend her first paycheck on a mommy-daughter date!

And I suppose after homeschooling so many, having a few less does feel so much easier .... Thanks for your comment ... and your filmmaking adventure sounds braver than I would be!!

Donna..I am a non- make-up type of girl. In the 34 yrs of marriage..I be I have bought less than 10 masscaras..blushes..eye make-up. I have bought a few more lipsticks..and a lot of nail polish.
I was given my first ped-icure 3 yrs ago..and I have to say I did enjoy it. I do try to be more careful with these old feet. I am barefooted all the time! lol
Thanks for all the suggestions!

Great post Donna....I try and always go to The Lord and get my insides pampered( and I do mean pampered, because of His wonderful peace that no one can offer but Him) by The Lord's washing of His word. and you will not believe, but I just posted on our temple this week on The Ladies Closet...go take a look!!! So cool how God is speaking to us about our "Temple".

AS Always, you hit the nail right on the head!! It's very easy to "put it off" when there is ALWAYS another way to spend my Time, Energy, & Money. They are all valuable resources, however, WE are the most valuable. Fotunately there are ways we can rest & recuperate....MY FAV(out of home) is def. a pedicure!! I could just sit in those massage chairs all day:) At home, I love to "have tea", read a book, lay on my massage mat, or use the portable bath spa! (THAT was an EXCELLENT thrifting find!:) Thanks for the reminder!!! BTW, I'm doin a pattern giveaway over at my place. Swing by and check it out if you have the time.
Happy Tuesday

nice to see you getting pampered. I dont like going to beauty salons etc but when I am feeling stressed out I just like going outside in the fresh air..my recent holiday was excellent as I could do my yoga at 7am before the rest of the house was up admiring the morning mists and the peace and quiet

Lorraine..I agree..sometimes the best pampering or at least 'refreshing' thing you can do is just go for a nice walk.

I feel like a new woman during most of the year when I do that.

Of course, right now, I would just be miserable. It's so hot!! One of the kids said we will soon be having a low of 68..now that gives me hope that we can get back to our outdoor walks again.

What great advice. I wish I could make more me time, but i always put everyone in my family first. But it is true, if we don't take care of ourselves, who will?
Thanks for the reminder.
Blessings,
Jill

Great post Donna, as usual!
I like pampering by asking Mark to take the kids out for dinner so I can be alone in a clean, quiet house!
